  • 1. Proportion

Our Designers are trained to understand the connection of the size of your art and how it will harmonize and balance with the actual frame and other elements of your custom project.
  • 2. Style

We are trained to recognize the relationship between the style of your art and the actual materials that will be used to complete your frame design. Whether this means we recommend the proper preservation technique to treat your watercolor or hand embroidered piece or propose to you the most appropriate historical frame for that Italian oil painting, you can trust us to relate the information you need to make an informed decision on framing your artwork.
  • 3. Texture

Fabric adds a lustrous element to many custom frame designs. Fabric can translate from a simple clean white silk mat on a black and white photography piece to a rich chocolate linen liner around a heavily textured abstract painting. We have a wide range of fabric to choose from in many textures and colors. Fabric is also a great way to tie in a piece of art with other elements of your decor. Bring in fabric or wall paper swatches and pillows that are used in your space and we can assist in making the perfect transition from your room to your artwork.

  • 4. Fillets

Fillets are small wood decorative edges that are used inside mat or frame openings. Fillets can add that extra touch that really sets off the art. The best treatment for a fillet is when the finish color or the decoration on the fillet enhances or repeats an element in your artwork.

  • 5. Layered Frames

Layered frames are when several frames are stacked together to create a larger one of a kind design. Layering frames is an excellent way to bring out color, extend a small frame that has the ideal detail in it to enhance your art, or to add texture to your project by wrapping the perfect fabric around it. Layered frames are just the thing for large pieces where the artwork needs not only the support and strength of a hefty frame, but visually requires a large frame for the mass of the artwork. Layered frames also work well when crating depth for framing objects.

  • 6. Depth

Depth can be a very effective frame design factor. Most of us are familiar with using depth in a shadow box when framing objects, but depth can also add an interesting element to flat artwork. Artwork can be lifted away from the backing creating the illusion of the art floating in the frame, or a mat can be lifted away from the artwork using invisible spacers or extra layers of mats.

  • 7. Unique mat cuts

Most of our customers are familiar with mats, but may not be aware of the array of distinct cutting techniques available. For example, we can cut subtle lines on the mat around your image; this is a sleek look on artwork with architectural elements. Perhaps you want to commemorate an anniversary photograph by carving the number of years into the mat. We can cut any number or letters onto your mats in a variety of font styles and there are a many other images to choose from - like animals, trees, flowers, etc that we can carve into your mats to complement your art. Whether it's a traditional arch mat for an antique etching or a fun daisy cut into the mat of your child's first finger painting, we can do it!
