What I do when I’m not framing…I lead a team of volunteers at my local animal shelter – we photograph and write bios for the animals, then post them online to help get them adopted. I share my home with an adorable pitbull named Tasha I fell in love with at the shelter.
Most daring thing I’ve ever done…Skydiving! It was amazing – a static line jump – and beyond scary at first. All went really well until I broke my wrist upon landing… I wanted to jump again anyway, but they wouldn’t let me.
My childhood ambition was…To be an artist, or a nurse. Volunteering as a Candy Striper at a hospital in high school, I realized I liked working in the gift shop or at the information desk better than working with the actual patients!
The coolest or most famous person I ever framed for was…All my customers are cool! Capitol Hill is home to a number of well known musicians, authors, politicians, and artists, many of whom have been my customers. I greatly appreciate clients from ALL walks of life who trust me with their valued artwork. I couldn’t work in a better neighborhood!
My favorite medium is… Photography (both digital and film). A few favorite photographers include Ansel Adams (he spoke at my college graduation!) and Walker Evans along with the other FSA photographers.
Why I love my job… Every day I’m exposed to beautiful/unusual/intriguing artwork and the delightful/unique/engaging person it belongs to. And I especially love the hands-on craft of framing. What’s better than having the privilege to make things that bring joy to people?
If I were a piece of art, I would be…Something controversial – that makes people think, discuss, examine their values.
